The was once a man, who in everyday of his life, rants about every small things that happens to him. He blames God for all the things like he woke up in the middle of the night for no reason at all or even when he bumped his feet in a chair. He was not happy and all he could do is just to be mad at God.
But one day, a life changing experience happened to this man. He met a beggar in the street while walking. This beggar is asking him with a smile for some food because this beggar is not yet eating for almost a day. Then, a wind blew in his mind. How could this man survive for long hours of not eating and still can smile. He has nothing. I have everything i need.
In life, most of us rant about so many things. We ask a lot of questions. Even the existence of God in our lives. Most of the time God is the one being blamed for all the negative things happening in our everyday life but for all the positive things that has happened, it is always our self who is to be praised.
Maybe the reason why we fail to see God in our lives is because our own image of God is our "self". The man in the story always rants about so many things in life yet he failed to see how God has become generous to him. The beggar has nothing yet he is still alive. The man has everything and yet he is still alive.
The only difference is that the beggar is humble enough to ask. ASK. a big word. Maybe instead of complaining, we might be humble enough to ask God to turn our grief to joy, to turn our sorrows to fulfillment, to turn our tears to smile, or simply ask God to be with us in facing life's trials.
"Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God, Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows." - Luke 12.6-7
Sometimes the only hindrance we have in failing to recognize God is our own "self". The biblical passage tells us that even the sparrows are not being forgotten by God. And so we are. Let us not think that when trials are ahead of us is because God has abandoned our lives, but the truth is He is with us because we are worth more than many sparrows...
Ask and it will be given. (Mt. 7:7, Lk. 11:9) Let the Lord fill our empty spaces.
